On Global Streaming: A Workshop With Dr. Amanda Lotz

Dr. Amanda Lotz, a leading scholar on television and streaming cultures, conducted a workshop on the theme of “global streaming” at Raah Lab on 1 November 2023. This discussion will traverse modes and methods of transnational research on platforms and streaming cultures, and how to bridge the gaps between academia and industry.

Bio: Dr. Amanda Lotz leads the Transforming Media Industries research program in the Digital Media Research Centre at Queensland University of Technology. She is a media scholar, professor, and industry consultant. Her expertise lies in media industries, digital distribution, television’s futures, the business of media, and net neutrality. Her work includes books such as Portals: A Treatise on Internet Distributed Television (2017), We Now Disrupt this Broadcast: How Cable Transformed Television and the Internet Revolutionized It All (2018), Netflix and Streaming Video: The Business of Subscriber-funded Video on Demand (2022), and a co-edited collected with Ramon Lobato titled Streaming Video: Storytelling Across Borders (2023).
